Year in Review: 2020 Families!

Life during a pandemic was not easy. There was loneliness, isolation, loss of patience, loss of jobs, loss of life (and life as we know it) for too many. I took the time to look back through all the portraits taken on my camera in 2020. This is one of my favorite things to do every year…doing so brings me back to all the moments that define 12 months in time. And you know what? 2020 didn’t seem to be lacking all that much after all. Couples still happily awaited new life, toddlers still stopped to pick up a stick or smell a flower. Moms and Dads still took the time to really breathe in their children, hoping once again to stop time. Siblings ran through the grass, played in the leaves, and looked forward to showing off their prized Halloween pumpkins. Babies celebrated birthdays, wiggled their toes, snuggled up tight, safe in their parents arms. We were stuck at home, yes. But maybe a little stickiness wasn’t so bad. These pictures were taken at different times of the day during all different seasons, and there is joy to be found in each one.

The intent of this post is not to downplay or take away from what so many people suffered through in 2020. This is my thank you. To each family who chose me during the craziest year in recent history. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for trusting me with your memories…ones that I know you hold a little closer now more than ever.

Jimmy & Casey: Married!

I’ve gotten away from blogging. Not sure when it happened or why, but as 2020 entered and changed life as we know it…my way of sharing images also took a major hit. Covid has been, for lack of a better word, all consuming. Gone are the days when six hours were stretched out in front of me to edit and share, edit and share, and repeat. In the wake of my workflow, there has been a serious case of simply trying to keep four heads above water. But all that is about to change! A switch went off in my head after being lucky enough to experience Casey & Jimmy’s wedding day. There was so much inspiration from both creative and emotional perspectives. Casey put all the details together in mere weeks after having to change plans due to the pandemic. In my heart of hearts, I know how hard this all was for Casey and Jimmy. After years of watching friends get married, and finally being able to plan a big blow out wedding down the Cape, it was finally their turn. Elation turned to disappointment real fast and it would’ve been really easy turn towards the negative. But Jimmy and Casey were simply meant to be married, no matter what. Casey was able to turn this around into one of the most stunningly beautiful days I’ve ever had the opportunity to witness. Family (including some of my own!!) and close friends finally gathered to celebrate Casey & Jimmy…and so many little meaningful moments are the result. I am honored to share these images and will always look back on this day and smile. Casey & Jimmy…congratulations! I know good things are ahead for both of you and I can’t wait to watch your story continue to unfold!!

Jake & Adrienne: Married!

Oh this wedding. This was one that I eagerly awaited as the 2019 months went by. Marshfield has always had special meaning to me, as my family has spent summers by the beach here for decades. When Adrienne explained to me that she was having a casual, laid back wedding at Salt River Farm, I was hooked. Perhaps my favorite part of the day was the getting ready portion. Both Jake and Adrienne were able to hang out at a family home half a mile away from the farm. The result was a truly intimate and relaxed vibe. Every detail chosen by Jake and Adrienne seemed so effortlessly elegant and blended with the beautiful, natural backdrop that is fall in Marshfield. Add in the love these two share and it’s pretty much a match made in photographer heaven. Congratulations to Jake and Adrienne…may you always laugh through your life the way you did on this amazing day!!

Ryan & Lauren: Engaged!

With each of my wedding couples, my job starts well before the actual big day. I am always ready and willing to offer advice, recommendations, and my opinion based on past experience. One of the things that usually ends up on my list of things to say is that sometimes engagement sessions may feel awkward at first. So many brides and grooms are worried about getting in front of the camera (especially since it’s not something most people do often!!). If Lauren and Ryan felt this way even a little bit, they certainly hid their jitters well! We had the most beautiful summer night at the Crane Estate and Crane Beach and these two were so at ease. Maybe it’s the fact that they are so at ease with each other, but the joy simply could not be contained. I cannot wait for next July to be able to do this all over again!!
